June 11 2007: QOTW: Absurd Amounts Of Clothing

I think it may be time for me to clean out my closet again. After posting on a few threads on Snark about the shoes and handbags that I own, I’ve come to the realisation that I own too much for my own good. 20+ pairs of shoes and 15+ handbags? Ridiculous. It’s totally materialistic, and I’m supposed to be Buddhist! Minimalism and all!
So the big challenge: to cut down what I own to the truly high-quality items and practical items, and donate things I should never have bought (eighties-style cyan and black anime-style minidress anyone?) to the Salvation Army. Maybe then I can actually fit my clothes in my closet and chest of drawers - right now, my clothing has overflowed the traditional clothes storage areas to be stored in my desk drawers and piled up on my windowseats. Yeah I know. It’s absurd. And, in light of my previous entry, somewhat hypocritical. So…

1This might relate to cutting off some toxic acquaintances, de-cluttering your room, detoxing your body…anything!

I cleaned about my wardrobes around 5 months ago but I’m starting to believe it’s time to do it again. Although my wardrobes are overflowing I still never seem to have anything to wear.

I need to spring clean my computer. I’ve got so much stuff downloaded over the years it’s straining my 120gb of space. =/

Heh, if you want links on organizing/simplifying your wardrobe, I keep coming across articles on that very subject. I bookmarked one on the minimalist man’s wardrobe that I think had a matching article for women…
If there’s something I need to cut down on in my own life, I think it’s thinking. :) I definitely tend to overthink things, to the point where I make issues where there aren’t any.
I don’t think it’s about how many shoes or handbags you have so much as why you have them, really. Do you just like them? Do you buy them to fill a deep, yearning void in your life? Are you unhealthily attached to them, or are they just pieces of leather you could live without? The why is much more important than the number, imo.

I find it hard to clean out my closet. I always say to myself that I’m going to regret throwing away the clothes because I might need them someday. This leads to my immensely full closet. Yuck.

today’s our first day for the 1st semester so i also cleaned my closet last night. i need to put the old books in the deepest corners of the closet so there’ll be enough space for the new ones.
ha. i’m cleaning my room, few areas at a time. my mom would be proud.

I always ask people if they want some of the stuff before I throw away to Salvos. You never know - one’s person’s trash is another’s treasure. I always dig my mom’s closet for interesting things to wear.
I only throw away uncomfortable or worn out things. Or stuff I haven’t worn in over 3 years. Hope your spring cleaning goes well.
I think everything needs to be spring cleaned in my life except for the social aspect - I always keep that pretty clean =D
